Today marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of justice for the tragic loss of our dedicated Deputy, Tyee Browne. We witnessed a pivotal moment as the suspect responsible for this heinous act has pled guilty to the charges brought against him.

This plea brings some closure to our community, the law enforcement family, and especially to the loved ones of Deputy Tyee Browne. While nothing can ever fully heal the wounds left by this devastating incident, the guilty plea acknowledges the severity of the crime committed and the pain it has caused.

I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have supported us during this challenging time – our community members, fellow law enforcement agencies, and the media. Your unwavering support has been a source of strength for us, and we are grateful for your understanding and patience as we continue to navigate through this process.

As we move forward, let us remember Deputy Tyee Browne for the dedicated and honorable officer he was. His memory will forever serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers who leave their families each day to protect and serve our community.

Cordele, GA (July 5, 2023) –  The GBI is investigating an incident that led to the death of Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyee Browne, age 26, of Macon County, GA, and an officer involved shooting. 

The early investigation indicates on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at about 3:40 a.m., Crisp County Deputy Sheriff Tyee Browne went to check on a car in the middle of the roadway near the 1300 block of Highway 280 West, Cordele, GA. The car’s history came back as stolen. While checking the car, the occupant, later identified as Croshawn Cross, of Unadilla, GA, age 25, shot the deputy.  Cross took the deputy’s patrol car and sped away from the scene. Prior to leaving the scene, responding Crisp County deputies fired shots at Cross. Crisp County EMS took Deputy Browne to a local hospital where he later died. Cross led law enforcement on a pursuit through multiple Georgia counties. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cross on I-475. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office also recovered the stolen patrol unit. 

Cross has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault (two counts), Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Carjacking, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted felon (3 counts), Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime (3 counts), & Theft by Taking (2 counts). 

The GBI will continue to investigate Deputy Brown’s death and the officer involved shooting.  Once the investigation is done, the case file will be given to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

(Cordele, GA – March 25, 2023) – The GBI is investigating a shooting that happened in Cordele, GA overnight.  Brandon Carter, 26, of Cordele, has been identified as the suspect in the case.  On Saturday, March 25, 2023, at about 3:30 a.m., the Cordele Police Department made the GBI request for the shooting incident that occurred in the 500 Block of West 24th Ave., Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia and ended with 2 men shot.  Both victims were taken to Crisp Regional Hospital for treatment and later transferred to Macon for further treatment. 

GBI agents obtained arrest warrants for Carter, charging him with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

At approximately 1:30 am on March 13, 2023, officers with the Cordele Police Department were dispatched to the 600 Block of E 26th Ave in reference to a disturbance. Contact was made with the caller, who told officers that Antonio Jamar Brown was threatening her and following her around town. The caller was escorted to a safe location while officers attempted to locate the suspect and the vehicle.

A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle in the 600 block of S 3rd St. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the driver fled. After a brief pursuit, the vehicle was stopped by construction on the railroad tracks on S 3rd St. Officers exited their vehicle and gave loud verbal commands for Brown to stop and exit his vehicle. Instead, Brown made a U-turn and drove at the officers. One officer fired multiple rounds at the vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene and was last seen traveling Eastbound on 16th Ave.

The suspect is thirty-five-year-old Antonio Jamar Brown, a black male with a date of birth of 06-06-87. He was last seen fleeing the area in a green Chevrolet Trailblazer with Ga tag TLV997.

Antonio Jamar Brown already had active felony warrants for:

Possession of a Firearm by a convicted felon

Possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent

Brown is now being sought on these additional warrants:
Assault x 2
Stalking
Terroristic Threats and Acts
Harassing Communications

The officer was not injured during this incident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in and is currently investigating the incident.
