Many humans proclaim to be Christian but, in my monkey opinion, if you are a true Christian you don’t have to proclaim it…people will see it.
What does it mean to be like Christ, aka Christian?
Let’s talk about that for a moment by exploring the Bible.
In 1 Corinthians chapter 13, Jesus tells us very plainly what a Christian should be.
1 Cor. 13:4-7
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
You can take this simple test to see if you have become like Christ or, like myself, still have a long way left to go.
After reading the above scripture I want you to read it again and in place of the noun “love” I want you to substitute it with the proper noun of “Jesus” and read it again.
“Jesus is patient, Jesus is kind. He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud. He does not dishonor others, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs. Jesus does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
The verses still makes sense, don’t they?
Now for the real test. I want you to read it for a third time and this time instead of using the proper noun “Jesus”, I want you to substitute YOUR NAME and instead of the pronoun “He” substitute it with “I” and see if it still rings true.
“YOUR_NAME is patient, YOUR_NAME is kind. I do not envy, I do not boast, I am not proud. I do not dishonor others, I am not self-seeking, I am not easily angered, I keep no record of wrongs. YOUR_NAME does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. I always protect, always trust, always hope, always persevere.”
Well, how did you do?
If you’re like me, you also have a long way to go. So perhaps we should all check our pride.
So do you judge some folks and gossip about others all while proclaiming to be a Christian?
Don’t be a goat.
Matthew 25:41-45
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
So if you proclaim to be a Christian how about showing some of that Christian love and help those humans that are less fortunate than you, instead of looking down your nose at them or looking the other way when you cross paths with them.
