Kevin Lee has been arrested for DUI… again. While some media folks attempt to go easy reporting on Lee’s arrest during this latest “bad judgement call,” I will not. He was an idiot for choosing to drive while intoxicated.
Kevin Lee faced very similar charges 8 or so years ago when he was employed with the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office.
Lee told the Thomasville Times-Enterprise back in February of 2015…
“When a law enforcement officer breaks the law, it affects everyone in a community,” Lee said.
Lee said he made a bad decision that led to being stopped by a city police officer, who found himself in a bad situation I am sure he was not comfortable with.
“I don’t hold any hard feelings against him or his department,” Lee said.
“I made a decision that led to an extreme mistake in judgment,” Lee said. Reiterating apologies to Thomas County, Lee said citizens can be assured a similar incident will never happen again. He blames no one but himself and is ready to accept punishment. Being a man of integrity, I accept full responsibility for my actions,” Lee explained. Lee resigned from the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office on June 23, 2016.
Obviously, Kevin Lee failed at learning to NOT Drink and Drive even after getting a second chance. I wonder if he’ll get a third chance or if his law enforcement days are over. I guess time will tell and MNN will continue to follow this story as it progresses through the judicial system.
I commend Sheriff Nick Norton for taking quick and decisive action by terminating the employment of Lee. That had to be a tough decision but Sheriff Norton made the right call.
I would think keeping an officer on the payroll with a history of DUI would constitute a HUGE liability for the Sheriff’s Office and ultimately the taxpayers of Lanier County. What if Lee had hit someone head-on resulting in death to a citizen while he was operating a county vehicle under the influence?
Out with the bad apples.
